Michelle’s Prenatal Advice

Hello hello!

Michelle here, in Week 38 of pregnancy, and before I get to the other side of this wild journey, I want to share my top 3 tips for working out while pregnant, no matter what kind of workout you like to do!

1. Find a Controllable Environment
Not all group fitness instructors are trained in prenatal fitness or have experience supporting pregnant clients, and some workouts are designed to just be hard and fast. It’s important to seek out an instructor or coach who understands how to offer thoughtful modifications and to choose an environment that allows you to modify movements on your own terms. Smaller group sizes, well-lit spaces, and a manageable pace can give you the time and awareness to tune into your body and decide what feels right each day.

2. Treat Each Day Like a New Day
Every pregnancy is different—and even within your own pregnancy, no two days may feel the same. Your energy, symptoms, and movement preferences can shift daily. Approaching each workout with curiosity, rather than expectations, allows you to respond to what your body needs in the moment. An exercise that didn’t feel good a few days ago might feel fine today, and something you’ve been enjoying might suddenly feel off. Giving yourself permission to adjust day by day creates a more supportive and sustainable experience.

3. Something Is Better Than Nothing
Some days, showing up might mean doing 30% of the workout, and that still counts. Moving your body, even in a reduced capacity, helps maintain momentum, build strength, and support your energy levels. Let go of the idea that every workout needs to be “all or nothing.” Consistency, even in smaller doses, can make a meaningful difference.

This journey has further solidified my passion for helping all people feel capable and strong while working out, no matter what their modifications may be! I am so proud of the sessions we offer at Momentum for our prenatal clients and look forward to getting back on the teaching schedule and helping other moms-to-be feel their best while exercising during pregnancy.
