What’s your favorite piece of Pilates equipment?
The reformer! It’s so versatile and can be accessible and effective for beginners, athletes, pregnant people, students recovering from an injury/with mobility restrictions, etc. With a reformer, there are also so many opportunities to play—you can change springs, add props, have a completely restorative session, sneak in cardio with a jump board, add weights…it really feels like the possibilities are endless.

Favorite Pilates exercise?
Right now I’m very into any version of a pull-up. I really want to be able to do an unassisted pull-up and the reformer and tower both provide fun and doable ways to work on this.

What’s one of your non-Pilates hobbies?
Reading. Mostly fiction. I'm just starting the Poisonwood Bible with one of my bookclubs.

Describe your classes in 3 words:
Supportive, creative, sneaky

What’s on your playlist?
Ethiopian jazz (look it up on Spotify, and report back with your favorite tracks!), Robyn, Lauryn Hill

What would you tell someone who’s afraid to try Pilates?
Just show up. Exactly as you are. There’s no need to be strong, to be flexible, to have perfect balance, a coordinated work out set or any specific type of body. I will meet you where you are and help you navigate class so that you feel successful and empowered to move in a way that feels good and to modify and rest within class whenever it’s needed. And if you’re showing up at Momentum, know that all of the teachers will do the same, and that the community of students will be warm and chatty and welcoming.

3 items you’d bring to a desert island:
Sunscreen, my kindle (is there WiFi??), Natural Calm magnesium which I swear that I need to sleep

What’s a tv show you could watch a million times?
Golden Girls!

What’s your ideal day in Charleston?
My ideal day obviously starts with class at Momentum. After that, I’m packing a cooler with seltzer, watermelon, guac and chips, swinging by Sightsee for coffee and Welton's for more snacks, and then heading to Sullivan’s Island for the morning. After the beach, I’d stop at home for naptime (for my two-year -old!) (ok, maybe for me, too) and then would do a late afternoon/evening picnic or a pizza in Hampton Park.

Favorite place you’ve ever visited?
Sicily. Specifically a tiny grocery near Mt Etna that had the best wine and snacks and a proprietor who sets you up at a tiny table and swings by frequently with a taste of something he’d just opened.

Post workout snack?
Water, a piece of fruit, and something w a little protein and fat—yogurt, cheese, almonds.

Pre workout snack?
I usually work out in the morning and am a breakfast before working out person—veggie omelet w cottage cheese and coffee.

What’s your best advice for starting a workout routine?
Look for small windows to connect with and/or move your body and give yourself credit whenever possible. Taking a Pilates classes, going for a run or spending 40 minutes in the gym are wonderful. So is taking a walk with a friend, doing five minutes of stretching or mindfulness before bedtime, repeating that one move that felt good the last time you did take class, or grabbing some weights and doing a few squats or lunges mid day. If you can find ways to layer in movement and body awareness that seem doable and fun, it will be sustainable and you'll transform how you’re feeling about yourself, how you’re moving, your energy levels and how you’re interacting with others.

One fun fact.
I pierced my own ears when I was 12.
